Climbing on frozen waterfalls has its unique thrill, which unfortunately was only rarely possible in the recent European winters. Quite different in the Canadian Rocky Mountains. Here, you can find the perfect conditions already in mid-February and they mostly remain stable until the end of April.
Our ice climbing trip starts in Canmore, a perfect starting point for the best spots this region has to offer. Within a few minutes’ drive, you can find short crisp mixed climbs as well as long waterfalls. Especially the Ghost River area is always worth a visit and will defiantly delight you.
After that, we continue through the Banff National park to Fields. This little Village is surrounded by various waterfalls which are (unusual for Canada) within easy reach. Finally, we head to the famous waterfalls alongside Icefield Parkway for two more days. Here, spots like the “Weeping Wall” or the famous “Polar Circus” wait for us to be climbed.

We offer this trip in two different variations – which ever suits you best?
• option 1: guided ice climbing
• option 2: coached ice climbing training
In this option, the members climb in rope teams of two and the guide takes care about organization and the schedule. Members will improve their rope team management, technique and tactic. This variation has proved to be successful over the years because climbers can make their experiences independently but still under the safe supervision of a professional. This method of climbing leads to a higher learning success from which you can benefit the most, especially at the beginning of the season
For all ambitious climbers: This course is for those people, who also might be interested in our north face program respectively our Cerro Torre climb. If the member and guide both agree that the climber has the skills for a north face ascent, we offer a discount of up to € 1.000,- on a booking of one of these tours.
